From WKMG LOCAL 6 NEWS :
ORMOND BEACH — A collision between two motorcycles killed one person and left another with serious injuries, New Smyrna Beach police told FLORIDA TODAY news partner WKMG Local 6 News.
Police said the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at South Atlantic and Fifth avenues.
Two motorcycles collided, ejecting the driver and passenger of one bike, police said.
The crash marked the first fatal motorcycle accident during Bike Week 2010.
In an unrelated accident, police were investigating how two motorcycles crashed near the Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach Saturday. Police said two people were seriously injured after their bikes went down in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1.
One of the riders was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries.
The other rider was taken to a nearby hospital.
Southbound U.S. 1 was shut down for a few hours while patients were being treated, police said.
The roadway has since been reopened.
This was the first serious Bike Week-related accident since the event officially started on Friday.
